Default Water Trident, viable?

This skill looks good and all, but was wondering if it was good to bring to GvG. I can forsee this helping along the flagstand with all the disruption it causes, and especially to delay an enemy flagger before they can cap. What are ya'lls thoughts?

It's effectively an elite, conditional gale. And no character beyond a dom mesmer has space to use it. There are other things you can use to disrupt key targets and delay a flagger, and the two best aren't elite (freezing gust and gale)

It's actually a respectable spammable damage skill, and the secondary effect is pretty powerful. There's several problems with it, though:

- A very high arc makes it easy to dodge.

- It only does enough damage to matter at a high Water Magic value... Otherwise, as Thom pointed out, it's just a conditional Gale.

- Elementalists want "awesome" from their elite slot, not "decent".

As long as it doesn't justify not running Ether Prodigy, I won't run it.

I love water trident. If it wasn't elite, it would be on every warrior I make. The 'leet status makes it less useful.

Well, that definately helps. Tried experimenting, and it had seemed ike it was too easy to just stand still for or dodge.

Default the problem

the problem with this skill is this:

its 2 weak for an elite... there are better elites out there..

and its 2 powerful if not an elite.. its kind of stuck in the middle therefore i never saw any pvp player takes it.

in pve u can c it because there are sometimes more then 8 monsters and 4 are using it and making it effective.. on the other hand if you think about it u did eventually beat them..

it would be an ok skill if it wasnt so easy to dodge :s

but it works well if the target is cripled or under a water hex

I recall way back iQ running Water Trident on a sword warrior, but it seems inferior to Bull's Charge/Bull's Strike.

Change it to 'This projectile spell flies 3 times faster than normal' perhaps?

If it had a 2 second recharge and normal projectile arc I could definitely see it being worthy of an Elite slot.

On an ele PRIMARY, of course not. On a secondary, prodigy isn't even remotely viable, so Trident may have some merit.

Of course, it doesn't, and can be safely replaced with Bull's Charge on any warrior thinking of running it, but you get the idea.

If surge got nerfed...new dom mesmer elite skill? they can spam it way more and not worry about gale exhaustion. This is, of course, assuming that they fix it so the arc isn't terrible.

Though I remember when I started playing, my friend gave me a flint's fleshcleaver and I wanted to cap it because it was the water version of flare, and I loved flare---I wanted to run water due to the staff and needed a water version of flare to justify switching.

This is because I suck at guild wars, and always have.

That's right. I wasn't thinking at the time.

I'm a being of excuses.

I used to try Me/E with Glyph of Lesser Energy domination with Trident and Deep Freeze. Didn't go so well either.
